Black Inventors

An event by the Black Engineering Student Society

Civil Engineering undergraduate Tobias Roberts led this event in February to honor some of the lesser-known black inventors that we can attribute some of our everyday items to. One such inventor is Garrett Morgan, who invented a three-way manually operated traffic signal in 1922 after witnessing a traffic accident between an automobile and a horse carriage. This invention was the predecessor to our traffic lights of today.

During the event, Roberts presented on several black inventors. Then, the students used SolidWorks to model the inventions they had just learned about. (Feb 2024)
