The Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Innovation Studio, located on the ground floor of the Snell Engineering Center (SN), is available for the use of the CEE faculty, staff, students, collaborators, and volunteers who require the space for academic education and research projects appropriate for the facility. Personnel from other departments may also use the facility where appropriate and permitted by the CEE department personnel.

All individuals and groups using the CEE Innovation Studio space are asked to abide by the following policies. Any questions about how to interpret or apply this policy should be directed to R. Riley. The department reserves the right to deny any user(s) access to the CEE Innovation Studio in the event that policies or procedures are not upheld.

General Policy

  • Entry (tap) access to appropriate parts of the CEE Innovation Studio may be obtained through sending a request to R. Riley. Please allow at least 2 business days for completion of the request.
  • All food and beverages are prohibited in the CEE Innovation Studio.
  • Reservations may be made for Snell 050 (CEE Build Space), Snell 050D, and Snell 050G by using the scheduling software Robin located HERE.

CEE Innovation Studio – Build Space (050SN) Policy

  • The CEE Innovation Studio Build Space is open to users with tap access when the Northeastern University Boston Campus is open. Standard business hours for the University are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Users with tap access may enter the space on weekends and after-hours as needed, but should be aware that assistance from technical staff may not be available. No students should be in the building after 9 pm daily.
  • All users of the CEE Innovation Studio must complete the SciShield training prior to entering the space for project work or utilizing tools in the facility (SciShield Login).
  • Users intending to schedule a date and time for exclusive use of part of the CEE Innovation Studio Build Space are asked to contact R. Riley for approval. Requests include but are not limited to: teaching/course instruction, course project work, student group work, or research work.
  • All tools and equipment within the CEE Innovation Studio must be operated appropriately and returned.
  • Lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve short-term basis for project work by contacting R. Riley. At the time of the reservation, a period of time for use of the locker should be specified. This period of use is extendable as needed. Faculty may request specific lockers for use by students within specific courses during the course of a semester. As such, personnel may be asked to remove contents from a locker if its use is needed for an ongoing course. If contents remain after repeated attempts to reach the owner of the contents, the contents may be disposed of by the department. 

CEE Fabrication Facility and Machine Shop (050A SN) Policy

  • The CEE Fabrication Facility and Machine Shop is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays when the Northeastern University Boston Campus is open.
  • The equipment and tools in the CEE Fabrication Facility are for the exclusive use of the CEE Technical Staff. Users of the space are not permitted to use the equipment or tools in the Fabrication Facility, but may request the fabrication of materials by contacting Michael MacNeil (M.Macneil@northeastern.edu) or Kurt Braun (k.braun@northeastern.edu). 

CEE Water and Environmental Engineering Laboratory (050B SN) Policy

  • Hours of operation are determined by scheduled courses and faculty requests.
  • All users of the CEE Water and Environmental Engineering Laboratory are asked to complete the appropriate SciShield training before entering the space. R. Riley will grant you access once training is completed.
  • All users are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as outlined in the CEE Laboratory Safety Manual, available from the CEE website HERE.

CEE Infrastructure Engineering Laboratory (050C SN) Policy

  • Use of this space may be reserved for a period of time by faculty and staff by contacting R. Riley.
  • All users of the CEE Infrastructure Engineering Laboratory are asked to complete the appropriate SciShield training before entering the space. R. Riley will grant you access once training is completed.
  • All users are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as outlined in the CEE Laboratory Safety Manual, available from the CEE website HERE.

CEE Experiential Learning Laboratory (050D SN) Policy

  • Hours of operation are determined by scheduled courses and faculty request.
  • All users of the CEE Experiential Learning Laboratory are asked to complete the appropriate SciShield training before entering the space. R. Riley will grant you access once training is completed.
  • All users are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as outlined in the CEE Laboratory Safety Manual, available from the CEE website HERE.

CEE Infrastructure Engineering Laboratory (050E SN) Policy
